Welcome to the new edition of James Hardie’s Site Seeing newsletter.
In this issue of Site Seeing we include some practical tips for water sensitive urban design from one of Victoria’s most innovative engineering firms; we also include a selection of interesting case studies where unique design techniques have provided large project cost savings; and an introduction to the new Q-Guard™ stormwater treatment unit and software tools, frequently asked questions, and plenty more…
Site Seeing will be published three times a year to keep you up-to-date with information relevant to you. Our next issue is due in September, so if anyone has any comments, suggestions, or ideas for issues you would like to see included, please don’t hesitate to email us to let us know.

| | | Practical Solutions For WSUD An increasing number of local authorities are requiring project developers to incorporate Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles into their developments.
The biggest change for some traditionalists is that local and regional stormwater infrastructure has moved towards minimum impact, not minimum maintenance. More info >
High Performance Solution For M5 East The $794m M5 East Freeway became part of Sydney’s growing orbital road network in December 2001, extending 10km along a four lane divided carriageway to carry traffic through a series of newly constructed tunnels and bridges. 2,400 Less Pipes For Yelgun To Chinderah The largest single project of the $2.2 billion Pacific Highway Upgrade Program in NSW, involved the design, construction, and maintenance of the 28.5km of road between Yelgun to Chinderah, on the north coast of NSW. Abigroup Contractors Pty Limited was awarded the contract and completed the four lane carriageway, 39 bridges, 11 overbridges, and fauna overpasses and underpasses, four months ahead of schedule. Lower Friction, Higher Velocity For Geelong Freeway The Little River section is the longest of the four upgraded sections of the Princes Freeway upgrade, the second busiest road in Victoria, linking Melbourne and Geelong.
The project involved the reconstruction of 21km of freeway to increase capacity from two lanes in each direction to three lanes in each direction. Floodwaters crossing the existing Geelong Road previously cut the highway every five or so years. Part of the Geelong Road upgrade was to increase the road’s immunity to floods to an Average Recurrence Interval of 30 years. More info > | | | |

| | | Economical Construction at Nielsens Road The Nielsens Road project involved converting a section of the Nerang-Broadbeach Road at Carrara into four lanes, the incorporation of a signalised intersection, the construction of two new bridges, and several major multi-cell box culverts. | | | Introducing the Q-Guard™ Stormwater Treatment Unit The new Q-Guard™ stormwater treatment device has been designed with careful consideration to pipe size, catchment areas, storage and holding capacity, and treatment rates. More info >
NSW DPWS Contract 019 The NSW Department of Public Works & Services (DPWS) has recently included the Q-Guard™ stormwater treatment device in the re-issued supply document Contract 019. More info >
